TCG Ping
Freelance
Retail Tracking App
Summary
TCG Ping is a real-time alert app that notifies collectors when trading card game products are back in stock—both in-store and online.
Problem
Collectors struggle to find trading card game products at retail prices because restocks are unpredictable, alerts are unreliable, and information is scattered across multiple platforms. Existing apps often send alerts too late, lack in-store visibility, overwhelm users with noise, and favor scalpers over real collectors. As a result, users miss legitimate restocks, waste time chasing false leads, and lose trust in the tools meant to help them.
Unreliable Restock Information
Users can’t tell if a restock alert is confirmed, delayed, or already sold out, leading to wasted clicks and frustration.
Notification Overload
Users receive too many irrelevant alerts, forcing them to mute notifications entirely—causing them to miss real restocks.
No Clear In-Store Visibility
Most apps focus on online stock only and provide little to no confidence about local, in-store availability.
Slow Alert Delivery
Alerts arrive minutes too late, giving bots and scalpers a major advantage over real collectors.
Scalper-First Ecosystems
Competitor tools unintentionally benefit scalpers by offering bulk alerts, bot-friendly feeds, or paid “early access.”
Fragmented Experience
Users must check multiple platforms (Twitter, Discord, Reddit, apps) to stay informed—creating anxiety and FOMO.
Discovery
Discovery process to provide a solid foundation for the design and development phases, guiding decisions with user-centric insights
This discovery process focused on a wide range of competitors including: Target, Walmart, Pokemon Center, Stock X, Pokemon Vending Machines, Sams Club, Collectr, CCN, Whatnot, Ebay, and Amazon. All these competitors are great for users to buy wether it's In-store or online purchases, with the exemption of going in blind or missing exclusive drops due to bots/scalpers. TCG Ping helps users find products faster, avoid missed restocks, and shop at retail prices instead of resale.
